So, you don’t have a bathtub or the time to take an arduous bath. You’d like to do something mood-lifting and positive but honestly feel a little lazy (and maybe a little gross, too). The good news is, you can still be indulgent and just as magical with a good shower.
1. Make DIY shower diskswith various herbs and essential oils. Not only will the steam improve your health, but the ingredients can have magical properties as well.
2. Steep the herbs you would put in your bath in a pail of warm water and rinse yourself with the brew post-shower. Many herbal rinses also offer tons of benefits for the skin.
3. Choose soap with intent. You can use bar soap (either DIY or store-bought) or handmade body wash. Looking to be energized? Try a minty eucalyptus soap. Need to unwind before bed? Go with a chamomile and lavender wash. Be sure to use ingredients that match your purpose!
5. Finish it off with a body oil post-shower. In addition to their various skin benefits, different oils have different mythological, magical, and aromatherapeutic connotations. Use coconut oil or olive oil for purification and protection, almond oil for prosperity, apricot kernel oil or avocado oil for love, or sunflower oil for energy. Add a drop of an essential oil for even more magic.
Hey y'all, C here. Today we’ll be talking in depth about the practice of bath magic.
If you look around most traditional parts of the magical community, you’ll notice that bathing for ritual work or spell work is a fairly common practice. So what do I mean when I say that I specialize in bath magic? For me, bathing and witchcraft go hand in hand, and I do a ritual in the bath once a month at the very least. I’ve always loved the serenity and focus (not to mention complete selfishness) of taking baths, and so as I’ve grown into my craft it seemed like a natural place to draw magical energy. I find that the hot temperature of the water makes it very easy for me to get to a trance-like state (if not outright do trance work) and being naked in the water gives me a great place of vulnerability and rawness to begin any kind of spell work. T and I also use bathing in our shared craft to begin most of our major rituals, and that entails doing a cleansing bath with a special kind of locally made bath salts that we have been using since the very beginning.
So what do my bath spells usually look like? To be honest, they vary a lot based on my resources at any given moment and the purpose of the spell. There are some things that I do every time such as:
• dedicating the bath for myself by placing a talisman or crystal (or other object I carry a lot/feel represents me) on the rim of the tub
• placing candles (often in corresponding magical colors and scents) around the tub and bathroom to add to the magical energy of the space
• making sure the water drawn is hot enough to remain warm for 40+ minutes and get me to a trancing state but not too hot as to burn my skin or make it uncomfortable for me to be in the water
I also put something into the water every time I do bath magic, and in fact that is where I believe most of the magical intent is decided. This also widely varies with the type of spell. Some things I’ve done are:
• just throw in a handful of Epsom salts for a super basic cleansing. I also use these (in addition to some other ingredients) when I’m doing a real trance or astral travel or trying to communicate with a deity because they make me feel floatier in the water and therefore easier to forget my body
• put in a few drops of different kinds of essential oils based on their magical associations
• drop in some tea bags (like mint or chamomile or bags I’ve already used first for drinking) while the water is running to get a good infusion
• use bath salts that already have essential oils or herbs (or even glitter!) in the mixture. I use bath salts that I make myself, that T makes for me, and store bought and locally made mixtures, all with good results. It all depends on what I’m feeling at the time.
• use pre-made bath bombs, melts, and bubblers from Lush (although I’m sure one could use stuff like this from anywhere) based on the ingredients and names of the products. I’ve used Sex Bomb for a glamour and sex spell, Space Girl for glamour and deity exploration (I do a lot of glamours), etc.
The practice of bath magic is great because we live in a society where bathing itself is so culturally charged to be reflective and purposeful. For that reason, it is also a great way to practice your craft that is not suspicious, or questioned by people you may live with. Even at their worst, taking long baths appears only over-indulgent. But I can live with that.
Hello all, I’m Robin and I’d like to talk about man made or processed stones and crystals. I’m sad there’s not a lot of discussion about “unnatural” or man-made stones. They’re kinda unfairly thrown under the rug, which is honestly heartbreaking as a lot of them hold so much potential in witchcraft. Here are just a few.
Red Goldstone: “Ugh, but Robin, goldstone is just silica and metal particles, you cannot tell me there’s an ounce of natural in that!” Do you know what silica is? Glass made from quartz sand. Red goldstone is made primarily of QUARTZ and COPPER particles, to give it that gorgeous reddish hue. So you get an awesome frankenstone with the combined properties of both quartz and copper, which I think has many very interesting implications.
Blue Goldstone (also see Blue Sandstone): Same process as any goldstone, just infused with cobalt instead of copper. I’ve been having a bit of a love affair with cobalt lately, it’s honestly so intriguing. Although man made, it still responds very positively, some even claiming a stone treated with it obtains a “peculiar” healing property. I love any element with a personality, and I’d be very interested in obtaining such a piece in the future to investigate myself. (Also have you seen it, it’s a chunk of the night sky)
Aura quartz: Tumblr has been gawking over aura quartz for a while now, but I still see people stick up their nose, which is so sad! A true aura quartz has been heated to just under 900° and metal vapour is added to coat the crystal and give it that luster we all love so much. The metal and colors vary (gold, cobalt, etc.), so you can have some very interesting property combinations. Some witches even believe the memory of heat effects the stones nature, similar to stones made in hot metamorphic conditions. But I digress.
Heat Treated Stones: many stones, even highly valued ones, can occur naturally in a murky color (rubies, saphires, etc). To give it a more vibrant hue, they are cooked a bit more to clear away the darker tones, or some “unwanted” colors, like brown on amethysts. It’s just heat folks. The ruby is still a ruby, the amethyst is still an amethyst. If you prefer the natural color, by all means power to you, but stop scaring others away.
Lab-Heated Citrine I’m exasperated with the number of “call out posts” citrine gets. “Is your citrine FAKE??”, “3 easy ways to tell your citrine point is NO GOOD!!” Chill the fuck out, unbunch your panties right now. There’s an awesome article about citrine here, but I’ll summarize briefely. Lab-Heated Citrine and natural occurring citrine ARE THE SAME GODDAMN THING. The coloring will be different due to the difference between a miner’s oven (citrine will be white at the base, honey colored at the tip) and the earth’s mega oven (occurs in varying shades), but they are BOTH GENUINE CITRINE. Please read the article, it will go into the details. If you feel like your lab-heated citrine has a disconnect from mother nature, bury them in your backyard a bit so it can get re-attuned, but stop demonizing them for no good reason.
There are many more stones and crystals that need addressing, but I’ll finish my rant here. If you still prefer natural over processed, that is 100% fine, and I support you. But I implore you, please stop attacking witches who genuinely enjoy and find processed stones useful in their craft. Thank you very much for your time.
First, you want to cleanse and bless the piece of rose quartz with the rose water. Next you want to charge the stone, focusing on your intent (which in this case is self love and healing). Put the crystal in the bag/sachet (Optional: Give it a kiss). Add the dried rose petals to the bag as well.
Keep the bag/sachet on your person or close to you to promote self love and healing. You could adapt this spell to be in the form of a jar, just add some rose water to the jar.
Anonymous asked: Are there any particular areas of witchcraft associated with space/stars? I feel strongly connected to the stars, even homesick at times when I look at them--particularly Orion.
• Rhodochrosite to ward off paranoia • Dioptase to ease worries/feelings of abandonment • Amethyst to prevent jealousy and soothe mental stress • Kunzite to resist addiction-related urges and panic attacks/anxiety • Chrysoprase for self-worth and to break away from co-dependent relationships • Hematite for self control • Sodalite for mental calm
I’ve been cleaning out my greenhouse that hasn’t been used in years and so far its been really fun!! (but also really hot and rainy, but thats okay!) so far I cleared off one of the full-length shelves that ran down one side of the greenhouse and put up some pots there. on that side, though, theres a broken window, well, there isn’t a window there, so I guess it could be considered broken still? or maybe not? anyway, where the broken window is I’m gonna put up some plants that need a lot of water since its been raining a lot! I’m gonna have to find a way to fix it before winter sets in, though, so my plants don’t freeze, but thats not for another couple months. I might go with just a wooden board or something since I don’t think we can afford to replace the window. or!! I could use a plastic bag or something that can still let light filter in! I’m still cleaning up a lot and I don’t actually have a clear idea of how I want to order some of the misc. stuff in there but I’m making good progress! I’ll be planting some seeds pretty soon and I brought some chalk into the greenhouse so I can draw sigils on the pots!
Witchcraft doesn’t have to be elaborate, ceremonious, or even planned. Elaborate ceremonies can be great, but it’s perfectly okay to do simple magic on the fly. Today, I was feeling witchy, and I wanted to do some protection magic for my room. I took a tiny little plastic container that’s usually used to hold salad dressing in lunch boxes and filled it with little amounts of salt, basil, lavender, rosemary, garlic powder, sage, and other protective herbs that I had in my kitchen cabinet. Then I sat outside for a little bit and asked the earth to charge the mixture with protective energy to protect my house and its inhabitants. Probably took me 5 minutes, maybe 10. Easy, simple, effective.
